I ran across this layered and evocative short story on the Electric Literature blog the other week and decided that I liked it enough to own and read again more closely. It still stays with me, an elliptical and foreboding tale set in the logging camps of the Pacific Northwest and populated with the ghostly and out-of-time.The writing is graceful, deliberate and precise as it unfolds. The writer draws you in and slows you to the story's rhythm. The character studies are quick but closely drawn enough to hint at much deeper relationships and rougher details underneath the surface. At times, it reads almost non-fiction in its sights and sounds. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
